Cancer Screening

At Gardner Animal Hospital, we understand how important your pet’s health is to you. That’s why we’re proud to offer our Oncok9 Cancer Screening service, designed to detect cancer early and help your furry friend live a longer, healthier life.

What is Cancer Screening?

Just like in people, cancer screening should be an important part of preventative care in dogs; the goal is to look for cancer when your pet is feeling well before they start to show any clinical signs. During wellness visits, our veterinarians at Gardner Animal Hospital look for early signs of cancer in your dog by performing a thorough physical exam, and commonly will ask you about any concerning observations.

In addition to the physical exam, we may recommend running blood work, imaging, and may recommend OncoK9 – a new blood test that could detect cancer before your dog shows any clinical signs.

What is Oncok9 Cancer Screening?

Oncok9 Cancer Screening is a comprehensive blood test designed to identify early signs of cancer in dogs. It’s a non-invasive procedure that involves drawing a small sample of blood from your pet, which is then analyzed in our state-of-the-art laboratory. The test checks for the presence of tumor markers, which are substances that are produced by cancer cells. OncoK9 can detect 30 different types of cancer, including eight of the most common cancers we see in dogs. Detecting cancer early will provide your dog with the best chance of defeating the disease.

Benefits of Oncok9 Cancer Screening

Early detection of cancer can make all the difference in your pet’s health. Some of the benefits of Oncok9 Cancer Screening include:

  • Early detection: The test can identify cancer before any physical symptoms are present, allowing for early intervention and treatment.
  • Improved prognosis: Early detection can lead to more successful treatment outcomes and better long-term survival rates.
  • Peace of mind: Knowing that your pet is cancer-free can give you peace of mind and allow you to enjoy your time with them to the fullest.
